The webcomic presentations that were presented still seem to carry on the issue of how a webcomic being updated weekly has major influence on building an audience because it keeps the audience waiting impatiently and excited to read the next episode.
Additionally, a common argument for all the webcomics seem to be able to be published in print. So, the role between the digital webcomic and print may play in the exhibition. And today, many of the presenters claimed “no” to the point that their webcomic shouldn’t be included in the webcomic. They described their webcomics as being too artistically simple, didn’t contain an overarching theme or message, or it lacked content. I believe these factors play an important role when it comes to creating a good webcomic. However, artistically, I also believe that the simpler the drawing doesn’t necessarily mean a “worse” webcomic than others.
After listening to all the presentations in my class, I have concluded that a webcomic being updated weekly is very important and plays a big role when it builds an audience, creating a subculture within the loyal fans also keeps the reader on the edge of their seats, and the cheapness of creating a webcomic online is very beneficial for the artists and writers.
Overall, I am very excited to be preparing for this webcomic exhibition and which webcomics will end up playing a role. I believe the webcomics that have character, most popular, and the global webcomics should be included in the exhibition so that there is a wide variety.
