After viewing all the webcomic presentations today and reflecting on my own webcomic, I believe that there were a wide variety of types of webcomics, for example, manga, webtoons, and the general American webcomics. Additionally, a few of the presentations brought up a new genre of webcomics like the discussion over LGBTQ issues. It was interesting to see so many different topics that could be portrayed through webcomics.
Additionally, it was unique to hear the two different opinions on the webcomic, “The Loneliest Astronaut.” Emily first presented that she wouldn’t include her webcomic presentation in the webcomic exhibition because of its simpleness, however, Jonathan stated that he would because of its unique type of continuity.
Secondly, I’ve realized how webcomics have become so international. Thus, it has a unique global community it is able to form. Many of the presenters from Monday’s presentation focused on the fact that regular schedules were a part of how webcomic artists are able to build a community. And this still remains true for today’s presentation. In conclusion, I believe this tenet is very powerful in creating an audience.
To reflect on my personal presentation, I still believe that my presentation should be included in the webcomic exhibition due to its unique features, and its powerful effect in creating bridges between other webtoon and webcomic artists by sharing stories and feelings, fostering the cultural communication between different countries. And the increase in foreign exports to different countries, allows those countries to create a new style of webtoons. It was also interesting to compare my webtoon side by side with manga because they were the only two presentations that were about international webcomics.
